Light, love and truth.
Simple at the start, deep for those who are called deeper.
Neither shall they say: Behold here, or behold there. For lo, the kingdom of God is within you.Luke 17:21 · The Fellowship Bible
Our mission
To love God, and to prove it with our hands. We are a congregation, a community of people who love God and believe that love must be lived. We gather to pray, and then we go out to act: to carry the light we receive into every place we stand, at work, at home, among our friends and beside our neighbours. Our faith is not measured by what we say, but by what we build together.
What we believe
One God, the Almighty
There is one God, the source of all that is: Light, Love and Truth beyond every name. All truth, wherever it is found, comes from God.
God in the small and the great
God is in the atom and the galaxy, in the cell and the soul. We seek God's truth in nature, in science, in scripture, in faith and in the wisdom of every people. Faith and science are not enemies: both read the works of the same God.
The Sun, image of the One
In our sky, the Sun is the nearest image of the One God: the centre that gives light, life and order to all that moves around it. This is why our symbol is the sun cross.
The kingdom within
Every person carries a spark of God's light. To know God is also to know the light within: living knowledge of God, not only belief about God.
Healing the temple
The body is a temple of God's light. We seek to heal our temples in body, mind and spirit, with clean food, honest work and rest, and to stand with that light against everything that is evil.
Jesus Christ, King of Kings
Jesus is the King of Kings and our Saviour, whose kingship comes by divine right, given by God. He obeyed God perfectly and led with love, compassion, courage and pure faith, and he revealed the hidden knowledge of the Father. He is the greatest example of one who walked with God.
Sophia, divine Wisdom
We honour Wisdom, whose story teaches the fall and the return of the soul to the Fullness of God.
The scriptures
We read the Bible together with the Gnostic gospels and writings, and we learn from the wisdom of other faiths, receiving whatever agrees with love and truth. Where the old traditions differ, we study them openly, and each seeker discerns God's truth in prayer.
Faith that builds
Prayer and action are one life. A congregation that prays must also feed, house and strengthen its people, and give away what it learns.
Each person's calling
God gives each soul its own mission. For many it is marriage and raising a family, which we honour as holy. Others are called to teach, to heal, to build, to serve, or to bring light to the world. Every calling is sacred when lived in love.
Love
Above all things, love: of God with all our heart, and of our neighbour as ourselves.
Fourteen virtues to live by
The seven foundation virtues, and the seven daily virtues that each heal a vice. Temperance stands on both lists.
The foundation virtues
The daily virtues
Humility heals pride, kindness heals envy, patience heals anger, diligence heals sloth, charity heals greed, temperance heals gluttony, chastity heals lust.
Four holy mysteries
Baptism, Anointing, the Shared Bread and the Bridal Chamber, taught in Truth from Monad.
Integrity means we are open about money and honest in teaching.
Why our Bible does not say “Lord”
The Hebrew scriptures call God by a name of four letters, which in time ceased to be spoken aloud. Translators covered it with a title borrowed from human households and courts: Lord, the master of land and of the people bound to it. The Fellowship holds that God is not a landlord over souls, and that the bond between the Most High and each soul is not the bond of a ruler and a subject.
So in the Fellowship Bible we say God; the Eternal where the old text says “the Lord God”; and Master for Jesus, the title his own disciples gave him. Nothing in this choice judges any other Bible or believer. It is one more door into the same house.
