Food

How we fuel our temples

Clean food for the congregation and the neighbourhood: first greenhouses, then The Common Good Grocery, then a food bank where we can, then community meals cooked for everyone.

What the first funds build

The first funds buy seeds, soil and the materials for a small greenhouse on borrowed or donated land, so the first harvest can be shared with families who need it.

Why it belongs to our faith

The body is a temple of God's light, and clean food heals it. A greenhouse is the sun's light turned into food: the sun gives, the earth receives, and life grows.

The steps

In plain words

Grow at home

Members grow what they can at home and share seeds, cuttings and recipes. The first harvests are shared with families in need.

The first greenhouse

A small greenhouse or hoop house on donated or borrowed land, built by members, growing heirloom and organic food.

The Common Good Grocery

It begins as a buying club: members order good food together at a fair price. When enough members take part, it grows into a store that sells local, heirloom and organic food to the congregation and the neighbourhood at our price.

The food bank

A pantry open on regular hours, in partnership with the regional food bank, for anyone who is hungry, with no questions about faith.

Community meals

Meals cooked from our own food and served to the congregation and the neighbourhood, with a seat for everyone.

Your community can do it too

Everything we learn goes into the free guide and the workshop videos. When they are ready, any congregation, church, school or neighbourhood may take them and build the same thing, with our blessing and without asking.

So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.Matthew 5:16 · The Fellowship Bible
